Vital Records

For your convenience you can process online requests through an independent company that the Recorder-County Clerk has partnered with, VitalChek. An additional fee is charged for using this service, and all major credit cards are accepted. Please see the application for information. If you were born in another state, write, or go to, the vital statistics office in the state or area where the event occurred.


Where To Write for Vital Records. Walk in: Customer must complete an electronic application on a kiosk located in one of the Recorder-County Clerk offices.

Mail: The Recorder-County Clerk's office must receive a completed application from an authorized person that is signed under penalty of perjury and notarized. Estimated processing time is weeks. Marriage Certificates: Copies of marriage certificates may be purchased approximately two weeks after the original marriage license is received and recorded in the Recorder-County Clerk's office.

Only the parties to the marriage may be provided a certified copy of a confidential marriage record.

Requesting a Certified Copy

The Recorder-County Clerk's office must receive a completed application. A notarized statement sworn under penalty of perjury must accompany orders sent by mail to ensure that the requester is an authorized person. Authorized Certified Copies vs. Informational Certified Copies.


California law defines individuals who can obtain an authorized certified copy of a birth certificate as:. Birth certificates for births in another California County can be obtained by contact the local health jurisdiction where the birth occurred or the CDPH Office of Vital Records. We close early at pm on the workdays before December 25 th and December 31 st and on four additional Fridays for staff development and training. Please call our office to verify office hours.
